Incoming government and IMF agree on a technical roadmap to review Colombia’s public finances

July 13, 2026.

As part of the “La Patria Milagro in Washington” mission, Vice President-elect José Manuel Restrepo held a high-level meeting with the International Monetary Fund’s Deputy Managing Director, Nigel Clarke, and his technical team.

The government of President-elect Abelardo De La Espriella raised the need to determine the true state of the country’s public finances with precision, clean up fiscal figures, validate the State’s obligations, and identify the main budgetary risks that the incoming government will inherit. As a result, it was agreed to initiate a technical assistance roadmap with the IMF to strengthen the fiscal assessment, restore market confidence, and build economic decisions based on evidence, transparency, and technical rigor.

During the meeting, the Colombian delegation spoke with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, who expressed her willingness to provide support during this new stage for Colombia.

La Patria Milagro receives the country with responsibility. Putting the public finances in order will be a priority to restore stability, confidence, and growth to Colombia.
